QUINCY — The Quincy University women’s volleyball team is beginning to monopolize the Great Lakes Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week award.

Last week, senior setter Makayla Knoblauch earned the league’s weekly honor when she had 117 assists and 32 digs in a four-game sweep at the Henderson State Tournament.

This week, Mattison Norris took center stage.

The senior outside hitter was named the most outstanding player of the Warrior Invitational, hosted last Friday and Saturday by Wayne State University in Detroit, as she collected 57 kills, compiled a .346 attack percentage and 41 digs. In turn, she was named the GLVC Offensive Player of the Week.

Norris opened the tournament with 18 kills and a .571 attack percentage in a three-set sweep of Pittsburg-Johnstown. She followed it up with 21 kills and 18 digs in a four-set victory over Wayne State. She finished the tournament with 11 kills against Northwood and seven kills against Ursuline.

Overall, Norris leads the Hawks with 97 kills and a .317 attack percentage. She is second on the team with 75 digs.

At 8-0, Quincy is off to the best start in program history since becoming an NCAA Division II program. The Hawks play at the Arkansas Tech Tournament this weekend in Russellville, Ark., before opening GLVC play at Missouri-Rolla on September 15. QU’s home opener is September 17 at Pepsi Arena against Missouri-St. Louis.
