Schuck on a Truck: Brewer, Tigers enjoy epic season, leading to Player of the Year honors

CANTON, Mo. — Following his team’s Class 2 state championship victory over Canton, Eugene boys basketball coach Brian Wilde suggested Canton senior forward Preston Brewer should be the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association Class 2 Player of the Year.

How prohetic.

The 6-foot-8 Brewer, who led the Tigers to their state runner-up finish, which was the best in program history, earned all-state plaudits from the MBCA as well as the Player of the Year designation. And rightfully so after averaging 25.4 points and 11.5 rebounds and becoming the program’s all-time leading scorer.

More so, it was the leadership and guidance Brewer provided that helped push the Tigers to the next level. The challenge will be for Brewer to help do that at the college level where he has committed to Quincy University, which is undergoing a rebuilding process heading in Brad Hoyt’s second season at the helm.

Brewer joined Muddy River Sports Editor Matt Schuckman on the tailgate of his pickup to discuss the season, the future and being named the 2024-25 Muddy River Sports Player of the Year for boys basketball for this episode of “Schuck on a Truck,” brought to you by Shottenkirk Toyota.
