Schuck on a Truck: Three-time Olympic volleyball player Caren Kemner discusses Summer Games

QUINCY — Caren Kemner is feeling Olympic. A majority of those who have represented the United States during the Summer Olympics at some point in their career likely are as well these days.

The Paris Olympics get underway this week with the opening ceremonies happening Friday and competitive action taking place over a 20-day span.

Kemner, a Quincy native, played in three Summer Games as a member of the U.S. women’s volleyball team and helped the U.S. squad earn a bronze medal in 1992. The Quincy Notre Dame Hall of Famer was named the International Volleyball Federation player of the year in 1991 and inducted into the International Volleyball Hall of Fame in 2013.

She coached volleyball at both the high school and collegiate levels upon returning to Quincy and is now assistant athletic director of external operations at Quincy University.

Kemner recently joined Muddy River Sports Editor Matt Schuckman on the tailgate of his pickup to discuss the Olympic feeling, the Summer Games, her new role at QU and the upcoming fall sports season for this episode of “Schuck on a Truck,” brought to you by Shottenkirk Toyota.
