Schuck on a Truck: QU softball coach discusses bringing Jackie Stiles to fundraising event
QUINCY — The start of the college softball season continues inching closer, and for the Quincy University softball team, that means a mid-February home game if the weather cooperates.
Before the Hawks take the field, they will get the chance to visit with and listen to one of the greatest women’s college basketball players of all-time share her story. Jackie Stiles, who starred at Missouri State when it was known as Southwest Missouri State, will be the featured speaker at the QU First Pitch Banquet, taking place at 1 p.m. February 2 at Pointe D’Vine, just south of Quincy.
The cost is $65 per person, $120 for a couple or $500 for a table of 10. Click here to purchase tickets.
Stiles was the NCAA all-time leading scorer when she finished her playing career in 2001. She became the first NCAA Division I women’s basketball player to score more than 1,000 points in a season when she netted 1,062 points as a senior. She finished her career with 3,393 points. Stiles was the WNBA Rookie of the Year in 2001 and a WNBA all-star.
QU coach Cathy Monroe recently joined Muddy River Sports Editor Matt Schuckman on the tailgate of his pickup to discuss Stiles’ guest appearance, the program’s fundraising event and the upcoming season for an episode of “Schuck on a Truck,” brought to you by Shottenkirk Toyota.
