Weppler adds to longball streak, allows one run for Blue Devils from pitcher’s circle
GALESBURG, Ill. — Sophomore Izzy Weppler continues to make the most of her at-bats in her first season on the Quincy High School softball team.
Weppler, a sophomore left-handed hitter, belted her second home run in as many games and third in 18 at-bats as the Blue Devils beat Galesburg 9-1 in Western Big 6 Conference play on Monday.
Weppler’s solo blast in the fifth inning gave the Blue Devils a 6-1 lead. Three of Weppler’s five hits this season have been home runs.
After the first inning, the Blue Devils scored seven unanswered runs, and Weppler fashioned six consecutive scoreless innings in the pitcher’s circle. Weppler gave up just three hits, walked one, struck out four and threw 50 of her 71 pitches for strikes.
Ivy Winter went 3 for 5 with two RBIs out of Quincy’s leadoff spot. Maggie Neally and Mia Ellefritz each recorded two hits for the Blue Devils.
Quincy (4-6, 1-3 WB6) has now won three games in a row after a six-game losing streak. The Blue Devils continue conference play with a road matchup against United Township on Tuesday.
