Wells tosses one-hitter as QHS baseball team wins fifth consecutive game in rout of Central
CAMP POINT, Ill. — A two-out single in the third inning is all that stood between Noah Wells and a no-hitter.
Wells allowed just one hit, struck out five and walked one Tuesday as the Quincy High School baseball team won its fifth straight game with a 10-0 victory over Camp Point Central.
Wells walked the Panthers’ Jace Howe with two outs in the second inning and gave up an infield single in the third inning to Nate Peters. He then retired the final seven batters he faced in order.
The Blue Devils provided plenty of run support, scoring all 10 runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings combined. The three-run third inning featured Drake Gibson hitting a two-out, two-run home run to right field. The four-run fourth inning included a Cameron Lawson RBI single, a Mason Ritter RBI double and a Gibson RBI single.
Gavin Fink and Lawson each had RBI singles in the three-run fourth inning.
Ritter finished 3 for 3, while Lawson, Gibson and Fink each had two hits as the Blue Devils (14-14) had 13 hits. Central (7-18) had five errors in the game.
