QUINCY — A three-run home run in the first inning by Lucas Loos sparked the Quincy Gems to their best offensive showing of the season in an 11-4 victory over the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes in a Prospect League game Wednesday night at QU Stadium.

Loos’ blast highlighted a four-run inning, and Quincy (2-5) added five more runs in the third inning. Otto Jones hit a two-run double, and Easton Mains laced a two-run triple down the left-field line. Mains eventually scored on a groundout by Loos.

Quincy added single tallies in the fourth and seventh. Joe Siervo drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, and Jimmy Koza’s bunt to mound for an out allowed Siervo to beat the throw to the plate from Springfield first baseman Cade Dufin.

Starting pitcher Cole Parkhill navigated his way through a rocky first inning, walking two batters, hitting one while allowing a single and a run. However, he settled down from there, completing four innings while allowing four hits, three walks and two runs while striking out six.

Tim Gooden earned the victory with two innings of scoreless relief, striking out four.

Joe Huffman had two of Quincy’s eight hits.
