Three pitchers combine on five-hit shutout as Gems take over first place in Great River Division
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Philip Reinhardt pitched six innings of five-hit shutout baseball, and relievers Kolby Kiser and Jacob Kroeger finished up with three hitless innings of scoreless relief as the Quincy Gems defeated the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes 8-0 in a Prospect League game Thursday night at Robin Roberts Field.
The Gems (11-10) moved into first place in the Great River Division, a half-game ahead of Clinton and one game ahead of Normal.
Reinhardt struck out five and walked none during his stint. Springfield’s best chance to score came in the sixth inning after Reinhardt allowed a double and a single, but Jacob Compton flew out to end the threat.
Quincy scored a run in the first on an RBI single by Lucas Loos. Dylan Wipperman drove in two runs with a single in the fourth inning, and Zack Stewart drove in two more runs with a single in the sixth. Gabe Swansen hit a two-run homer in the seventh, and Nolan Wosman contributed an RBI double in the eighth.
Stewart, Wosman, Swansen and Tye Wood all had two hits for Quincy, which had 13 hits. Wosman has hit safely in eight of his last nine games. Andrew Fay scored three runs for the Gems, who have won five of their last six games.
