QUINCY — In a year full of firsts for the Quincy Notre Dame baseball team, Rowan Stegeman added his name to that list on Saturday.

The freshman third baseman hit his first career home run, a two-run shot to left field in the first inning, to give the Raiders a 2-1 lead over Rochester. The Raiders added another run in the first and two more in the second, and Abram Wiewel came within one out of a complete game as the Raiders completed a 5-2 victory at Ferd Niemann Jr. Memorial Ballfield.

Stegeman joined Wiewel and Eli Johnson in hitting their first career homers this season. Stegeman went 2 for 2 with three RBIs and reached base in all three of his plate appearances. He is second on the Raiders to Wiewel in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, hits, and RBI and is tied for the team lead in doubles with Wiewel.

Wiewel matched a career high with 13 strikeouts and had at least one strikeout in every inning. He reached the maximum of 105 pitches after walking Gibson Warren with two outs in the seventh. Oliver Triplett relieved Wiewel and gave up an RBI single to Eli Carlson before inducing a groundout off the bat of Jorey Myren to end the game.

The Raiders (9-4) have won three games in a row and eight of their last nine dating back to April 1.
