Quincy Catholic wins IESA Class 8-3A regional at Pittsfield; Brown County, Griggsville-Perry, Western also win titles

PITTSFIELD, Ill. — The Quincy Catholic eighth grade boys basketball team won the Class 8-3A regional at Pittsfield on Thursday, defeating Athens 28-18 at Pikeland Community School.

The Crusaders (16-3) will play at 6:30 p.m. Monday against Williamsville (17-8) in the sectional at Williamsville. The winner of that game will play in the IESA Class 8-3A state tournament at Tolono Unity High School at 10 a.m. against the winner of the Downs Tri-Valley versus Forrest Prairie Central game at Forrest.

T.J. Togarepi had a game-high 14 points for Quincy Catholic, and Rowan Stegeman added seven. The Crusaders forced 22 turnovers and held the Warriors (22-4) to two free throws in the third quarter and only three points in the fourth quarter.

The Crusaders are coached by Ron Kinscherf and Ben Marth.

Brown County also won a title on Thursday, defeating Carthage 34-28 in the Class 8-2A regional at Unity High School in Mendon. Brown County will play host on Monday in the sectional against undefeated Abingdon-Avon at 6:30 p.m.

Griggsville-Perry and Western won Class 8-1A regionals on Thursday. Griggsville-Perry defeated Southeastern 39-13 in the regional at Augusta, and Western defeated Godfrey St. Ambrose 37-34 in the regional at Carrollton. Griggsville-Perry and Western will play for the sectional championship at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Virginia.
