Hannibal girls soccer team posts two shutouts in winning Laker Shootout

CAMDENTON, Mo. — Mother Nature won Friday. The Hannibal girls soccer team owned Saturday.

The Pirates’ opening game of the Laker Shootout against Warrensburg was washed out by Friday’s barrage of thunderstorms. It didn’t them from winning the title. Hannibal beat Carl Junction 3-0 and Waynesville 4-0 to win both the gold division and the overall tournament championship.

“Both games were very physical and we got beat up a bit, but the girls played tough,” Hannibal coach Eric Hill said.

Against Carl Junction, the game remained scoreless until the final 11 minutes when the Pirates scored three times. Against Waynesville, Hannibal (16-2-2) scored three times in the first half.

The Pirates’ Abbie Martin finished with three goals and two assists on the day. Ashley Davis scored twice, Kegan Greening had two assists, Aly Falconer netted a goal and dished out two assists, and Malia Stolte added a goal and an assist. Ava Turner notched both shutouts in net.
