Augusta Southeastern to play for third place Thursday at IESA Class 7-1A state tournament
EAST PEORIA, Ill. — The Augusta Southeastern Junior High School seventh-grade boys basketball team will play for third place on Thursday night in the Illinois Elementary School Association Class 7-1A state tournament at East Peoria Central Junior High School.
The Suns (19-5) will play Sigel St. Michael at 6 p.m. Thursday. Lincoln West Lincoln-Broadwell (26-2) and Ottawa Marquette (23-2) will play in the championship game at 7:30 p.m.
The Suns played two games on Saturday in East Peoria, defeating Mendota Holy Cross 47-40 in the quarterfinals and losing 27-24 to Ottawa Marquette in the semifinals.
Nolan Stephens made five 3-pointrs and scored 21 points for Southeastern against Holy Cross. The Suns took a 15-2 lead after the first quarter and led 29-12 at halftime. Kash Lantz added 14 points for the Suns.
Southeastern was outscored 9-4 in the fourth quarter in the semifinal loss. Hayden Wilcox led the Suns with 11 points, and Lantz added 10.
