ALTON — Recent Quincy Notre Dame graduate Jake Schisler allowed four runs in five innings and took the loss in his first start for the Quincy Gems in a 7-4 loss to the Alton River Dragons on Sunday in a Prospect League game at Lloyd Hopkins Field.

The Gems (3-9) now have the worst record in the Prospect League. Five teams have three victories, but the Gems have the most losses out of those five teams.

Schisler, whose last start was in the Class 2A semifinals at the Illinois High School Association state tournament, threw four shutout innings. However, the River Dragons touched him for four runs in the third inning. He allowed two run-scoring singles and two run-scoring doubles in the inning.

Quincy scored single tallies in four innings. Otto Jones drove in Cam Suto with a single in the second, and Joe Huffman hit a solo home run in the fourth. Huffman hit an RBI triple in the eighth inning to score Suto, and Easton Mains singled home Jones in the ninth.

Suto, Huffman and Voth each had two hits for the Gems. The rest of the lineup went 2 for 24.

The Gems play again Monday at Alton.
