ST. LOUIS — Jack Rhead scored the game-winning goal on a pass from Cole Hayes in the 99th minute to help the Quincy University men’s soccer team came from behind to defeat Missouri-St. Louis 3-2 on Sunday afternoon in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match.

Keegan Klingene cleared a ball from QU’s defensive zone and connected with Hayes streaking down the left side of UMSL’s defensive zone. Hayes pushed the ball deep into the goalie box with a defender draped all over him, then finessed a pass to a wide open Rhead, who scored his fifth goal of the season for the walk-off victory.

Quincy had to play from behind after the Tritons scored in the third minute of the game. In the 15th minute, Alsadiq Hasan was contacted on a shot in the penalty area, setting up a penalty kick for the Hawks. Aubrey Reis made the penalty kick attempt for his third goal this season and tied the game 1-1.

The Tritons scored in the 60th minute to go up 2-1. The Hawks tied it up on a corner kick in the 80th minute. Reis sent in a feed from the far corner, and Hayes got a head on the ball as it scooted towards Macker Little. He pushed it past a defender for the goal.

Neither team scored in the last ten minutes of regulation.

Quincy improved to 2-2-1 in conference play and 4-3 overall. The Hawks are tied for seventh place with Lewis and McKendree with seven points each.
