QUINCY — Starter Philip Reinhardt retired the first 14 batters he faced and pitched six scoreless innings to lead the Quincy Gems to a 9-3 victory over the Burlington Bees in a Prospect League game on Sunday night at QU Stadium.

The Gems (13-15) closed the first half of the season in second place in the Great Lakes Division, 3½ games behind Clinton (16-11). The second half of the season begins Monday when Quincy plays host to Normal.

Quincy has won eight of its last 11 games.

Reinhardt gave up his first hit with two outs in the fifth when Cedric Dunnwald singled down the left-field line. Dunnwald tried to stretch his hit into a double, but Harry Oden threw him out at second base.

Reinhardt then retired the final three batters he faced. He struck out five and walked none to earn his first victory.

Connor Schwindeler gave up three runs in the seventh, then Tyler Barker wrapped up the game with two shutout innings.

Quincy scored all of its runs in the first five innings. Kyle Hvidsten doubled in a run in the first inning, and a two-out error allowed another run to score in the second inning.

The Gems added three runs in the third inning on RBI singles from the bottom three hitters in the order — Oden, Easton Mains and Harrison Blueweiss. Riley Black clubbed a two-run homer to left-center in the fourth inning. Logan Voth singled in a run in the fifth, and Black added a two-run double.

Black, Hvidsten, Oden, Mains and Cam Suto each had two hits for the Gems.
