QU baseball team moves up to No. 17 in national poll after opening with three victories in four games

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Quincy University baseball team has moved up three spots to No. 17 in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll.

Quincy opened its season by defeating No. 3-ranked Tampa in two out of three games on Feb. 10-12, then defeated Saint Leo University 10-2 on Tuesday. 

A two-run double by Luke Napleton, an RBI single by Nolan Wosman, an RBI double by Brock Boynton and a sacrifice fly by Lance Logsdon helped the Hawks take a 5-0 lead in the third inning. Logsdon added a two-run single in the fourth, and Dustin Dupont hit a three-run home run in the ninth.

Kobe Essien was the winning pitcher as he went five innings in his first start of the season. Essien struck out six, allowed two walks, one hit and one run.
