QHS tennis team sweeps season series from QND, finishes regular season with 18-2 dual record

QUINCY — The Quincy High School boys tennis team put a cap on an incredible regular season by sweeping the season series from intracity rival Quincy Notre Dame.

The Blue Devils posted an 8-1 victory over the Raiders on Tuesday at the Greeman Tennis Center in Reservoir Park to improve to 18-2 in duals before heading to this weekend’s Western Big 6 Conference tournament in Moline.

The Blue Devils swept the six singles matches, winning three in a tiebreaker.

At No. 1 singles, QHS’s Ethan Stark lost the first set to QND’s Daniel Dyer before rallying for a 2-6, 6-3 (10-4) victory. At No. 2, the Blue Devils’ Surya Reddy also lost the first set, but he stormed back for a 3-6, 6-0 (11-9) victory over Alex Strong.

The Blue Devils’ Arrow Crist, playing at No. 5, didn’t win a game in the first set but rallied for a 0-6, 6-3 (10-4) victory over David Ehrhardt. Drake Dodd at No. 3, Kael Holzgrafe at No. 4 and Emanuel Sogadji at No. 6 each won in straight sets.

In doubles action, Stark and Reddy beat Dyer and Strong 8-5 at No. 1, while Dodd and Holzgrafe beat QND’s Peter Damm and Aden Smith 8-3 at No. 2. The Raiders picked up their lone victory at No. 3 doubles as Ehrhardt and Cael Willer beat the Blue Devils’ Sogadji and Schuetz 8-3.
