CLINTON, Iowa — Eleven walks from four Quincy pitchers proved to be too much to overcome in a 10-5 loss to the Clinton Lumberkings on Thursday night in a Prospect League game at NelsonCorp Field.

The Gems (14-17, 1-2 second half) are in last place in the Great River Division, one game behind Clinton, Burlington and Illinois Valley — who are all 2-1. Quincy pitchers have allowed 39 runs in the past three games.

The Gems fell behind 2-0 in the first inning and never caught up, despite scoring single runs in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings.

A run scored on a double play in the second inning, and Joe Siervo scored on Kyle Hvidsten’s RBI groundout in the third inning. Another run scored on an error in the fourth inning, and Hvidsten’s sacrifice fly scored Siervo in the fifth.

Quincy scored its final run in the ninth on a wild pitch. The Gems loaded the bases in the ninth, but Otto Jones grounded out to end the game.

Starter Cole Parkhill didn’t make it through the third inning, walking seven and allowing six runs. Braden Smith pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings in his Quincy debut. Parker Mengelsen, making his Gems debut as well, and Juan C. Wu combined to pitch the final two innings, allowing three hits, four walks and four runs.

Jack Zebig had three hits for Quincy, and Siervo had two.
