EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. — The O’Fallon softball team took advantage of the free bases it was given to gain separation from Quincy High School during the late innings of Tuesday’s Class 4A Edwardsville Regional semifinal and post a 6-2 victory.

The Blue Devils trailed 2-1 going to the fifth inning, but they engineered a two-out rally to tie the game. Ariana Adorno doubled with one out, and after a strikeout, freshman catcher Maggie Neally delivered an RBI double to left field.

However, in the bottom of the innings, the Panthers strung together a one-out walk, a double and a sacrifice fly to plate two runs. In the bottom of the sixth inning, a one-out error and a two-out walk set up O’Fallon to score twice on back-to-back singles.

Quincy got two runners on base in the top of the seventh but was unable to score.

The Blue Devils (12-20) were limited to five hits by Panthers pitcher Kennedy Clark, who struck out eight and walked eight. Quincy pitcher Izzy Weppler allowed six hits, three earned runs and six walks while striking out three.
