Oden drives in six runs, including grand slam in first inning, as Gems rout Alton at home
QUINCY — Harry Oden drove in six runs, including a grand slam in a seven-run first inning, to help the Quincy Gems rout the Alton River Dragons 17-3 in a Prospect League game on Tuesday night at QU Stadium.
The game was stopped before a pitch was thrown in the bottom of the sixth. The coaches of both teams and the umpires determined the haze over the field was making it difficult for the players to see the ball.
The Gems (11-15) stopped a three-game losing streak. They are tied for second place in the Great River Division, percentage points ahead of Illinois Valley. They trail division-leading Clinton by four games.
Quincy took advantage of an error and four walks to score seven runs with two outs in the first inning. Oden hit his home run down the right-field line.
Lucas Loos hit a bases-clearing double in the four-run third inning, which included an RBI single from Oden. and Jimmy Koza hit a two-run double in the five-run fourth inning, which included an RBI groundout by Oden.
Otto Jones had three hits for the Gems. Loos finished with four RBIs and two hits. Jack Zebig also had two hits for the Gems.
Noah Harbin picked up his first victory for Quincy, allowing two runs in 3 2/3 innings.
