Notre Dame’s Lahr, Scott capture Class 1A regional wrestling championships
PETERSBURG, Ill. — A pair of Quincy Notre Dame wrestlers dominated their respective weight classes Saturday and propelled themselves to the Class 1A sectional by winning regional crowns.
Bradi Lahr, a sophomore at 144 pounds, and Taylin Scott, a junior at 215, combined to go 5-0 with four pins during the Class 1A Petersburg PORTA Regional.
Lahr pinned Camp Point Central’s Kayne Mitchell in 3 minutes, 43 seconds to improve to 34-4 overall, while Scott pinned Canton senior Grant Kessler in 1:26 to improve to 40-3 overall.
Camp Point Central senior Conner Griffin also won a regional title as the top three wrestlers in each weight class advance to the Stanford Olympia Sectional next weekend. Griffin beat top-seeded Brayden Barner of PORTA 7-5 in the championship match, moving to 29-8.
West Hancock’s Evan Carel won the title at 150 with a 6-2 decision over PORTA’s Cael Cotner. Carel is 28-5 overall. Illini West’s Shawn Watkins took the crown at 175, pinning Canton’s Gus Lidwell in 1:51. Watkins is 32-7 overall.
Finishing second in their respective weight classes for Central freshman Charlie Welch (106), freshman Case Hughes (113) and senior Jack Thompson (157), while Macomb sophomore Ethan Hoyt (120) and senior Damone Johnson (132) and QND junior Ryan Darnell (190) took second as well.
Finishing third were QND junior Oliver Moore (126), Central junior Konner Bush (150) and Macomb freshman Charlie Bodiford (285).
