LumberKings build insurmountable lead against Doggy Paddlers before rain ruins second game of twinbill
QUINCY — The Quincy Doggy Paddlers and Clinton LumberKings cannot avoid the rain.
One night after having their game in Clinton, Iowa, postponed due to weather, their Friday night doubleheader at QU Stadium was interrupted by thunderstorms. The LumberKings won the first game 11-3 and were leading the second game 7-5 through four innings when the rain forced the seven-inning affair to be suspended.
The game will resume July 22 as part of a doubleheader unless the Prospect League deems it a complete game since four innings were played.
In the first game, the LumberKings built a 9-0 lead by the fifth inning, taking advantage of Brett White’s three-run home run in the second inning and Noah Thein’s two-run double in the fifth.
The Doggy Paddlers scored twice in the fifth on a Kannon Kirk sacrifice fly and a Byron Blaise RBI single. Brady Kindhart homered in the seventh inning for Quincy as the Quincy Notre Dame product went 3 for 3 with two runs scored.
Doggy Paddlers right-hander Tyler Dance, a QND product who delivered seven innings without an earned run in his debut, didn’t fare as well this time. He took the loss after allowing seven runs and eight hits in 4 ⅓ innings.
The Doggy Paddlers (14-21, 5-7 second half) head to CarShield Field in O’Fallon, Mo., to face the O’Fallon Hoots at 6:35 p.m. Saturday before returning to QU Stadium at 5 p.m. Sunday to face the Alton RiverDragons.
