Loos hits two-run homer to put Gems ahead, but Normal scores 17 consecutive runs to earn victory
QUINCY — After jumping out to a 2-0 lead, the Quincy Gems allowed 17 consecutive runs and lost 17-3 on Monday night at QU Stadium in the first game of the second half of the Prospect League season.
Lucas Loos hit a two-run homer in the third inning, and starting pitcher Tyler Dance threw three scoreless innings in his debut for the Gems (13-16).
Things went haywire in the fourth.
Dance allowed three hits and a walk before he was replaced Carter Poole, who then allowed one hit and walked three without retiring a batter. Jake Syverson then came on and walked a batter with the bases loaded before escaping the eight-run inning.
Normal then put the game away with five runs in the sixth and four more runs in the seventh. Loos accounted for the Gems’ third run when he drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh.
Riley Black had two of Quincy’s five hits.
