Konrad’s two-out double in seventh ties score, Gibson’s two-out single in eighth wins game for Blue Devils
QUINCY — Drake Gibson’s bases-loaded single in the bottom of the eighth inning gave the Quincy High School baseball team a 5-4 victory over Rock Island on Wednesday afternoon in a Western Big Six Conference game.
The victory is the third straight for the Blue Devils (5-10, 2-4 in the WB6).
James Day led off the bottom of the eighth with a walk. Jacob Salisbury then bunted and reached first on an error by Rocks pitcher Chase Curry, moving Day to second. Kade Parkhill then laid down a sacrifice bunt and moved both Day and Salisbury up one base.
Cameron Lawson was intentionally walked, and Gibson then delivered the game-winning hit.
Quincy trailed 4-0 after 3 ½ innings. The Blue Devils scored their first run in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single from Trace Routh, then added two more runs in the fifth when Parkhill scored on a wild pitch and Gavin Fink scored on a balk.
Quincy then tied the game on Nate Konrad’s two-out double to left to score Fink in the bottom of the seventh.
Lawson pitched seven innings for Quincy, allowing seven hits, one walk and four unearned runs. Day pitched a scoreless eighth to earn the victory.
