MOUNT STERLING, Ill. — The Brown County baseball team has rounded back into form, and the depth of the Hornets’ lineup continues to be a reason why.

After back-to-back losses to Greenfield/Northwestern and Winchester West Central on Monday and Tuesday, the Hornets have won three games in three days by a combined 21 runs, the latest of which came in a 13-3 thumping of Liberty on Friday.

Four players had two hits for the Hornets, including the eighth- and ninth-place hitters Dylan Reische and Wyatt Kassing. Reische went 2 for 3, and Kassing went 3 for 3. Each had two RBIs, and they combined to score five runs.

After Liberty scored a run in the top of the first inning, the Hornets rattled off four runs in the second and eight more in the third to take a 12-2 lead. Reische delivered a two-run single with two outs, and Kassing followed with a triple that drove in two more runs and extended the Hornets’ advantage to 10 runs. Collin Dieterle and Tyce Fullerton each had two hits and drove in five runs between them.

Reed Sparrow went 3 for 3 for Liberty (10-7).

Brown County (20-7) will travel to play at Quincy Notre Dame (15-6) on Monday.
