Homers by Loos, Latham support six strong innings from Kolacia as Gems get within half-game of first

June 21, 2022 — by Muddy River News

Cael Kolacia

BURLINGTON, Iowa — Lucas Loos his a two-run home run in the fourth inning and Jonathan Latham belted a three-run home run in the eighth inning as the Quincy Gems defeated the Burlington Bees 7-3 Tuesday night in a Prospect League game.

The Gems (10-10) are tied with Clinton for second place in the Great River Division, a half-game behind Normal.

A throwing error by the Bees led to Quincy’s first run in the first inning. Drew Townsend hit a run-scoring single in the second inning.

Gems starter Cael Kolacia, a freshman from Iowa Western Community College, picked up his third victory of the season, striking out eight and allowing six hits and one run in six innings. Reliever Tim O’Connor walked the bases loaded in both the seventh and eighth innings but only allowed one run.

Burlington stranded 12 baserunners in the game. The Gems only had six hits.
