Highland boys sending three relay teams, three individuals to Class 2 state track meet

MOKANE, Mo. — The Highland boys track team is sending qualifiers in five events after scoring 52 points and placing sixth in the Class 2 sectional track meet on Saturday at South Callaway High School.

New Bloomfield scored 81 points to win, and Salisbury scored 68 points to place second.

Highland’s 4×100-meter relay team of Charlie Evans, Christopher Gaus, Porter Peters and Lane Hinton won with a time of 44.33 seconds. The 4×200 team of Evans, Gaus, Xavier Santiago and Hinton placed second in 1:33.51, and the 4×400 team of Briscoe Post, Tyler Seals, Peters and Evans won in 3:40.05. 

Hinton took second in the 100-meter dash in 11.26 seconds, and Evans was first in the 400-meter dash in 52.42 seconds. Gaus was fourth in the long jump at 6.11 meters.

South Shelby, which placed eighth with 37 points, was led by Aadon Magruder’s first-place finish in the shot put at 16.17 meters. Owen Stueve was third in the long jump at 6.19 meters, and Gabriel Brown was third in the javelin with a throw of 51.49 meters. The 4×400-meter relay team of Stueve, Beau Mason, Hudson Gill and Preston Elsen took second in 3:35.82.

Monroe City’s Wyatt DeGrave won the high jump at 1.94 meters. Mark Twain’s Sam Northcutt won the 800-meter run in 2:01.45, and Mason Delaporte was second in the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 15.96.
