QUINCY — Quincy University is in the market for a new women’s soccer coach.

After two seasons at the helm, Samuel Thomas resigned last Friday after meeting with the school’s athletic officials. The Hawks were 7-9 this fall with a 6-8 record in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, finishing ninth and missing out on the league’s postseason tournament.

The school posted the job opening to its website Tuesday, and an advertisement appeared on Indeed.com on Wednesday.

Thomas was hired in December 2019 to replace Marc Hager, who resigned after two seasons at the helm. He didn’t coach his first game until February 26, 2021, because of the coronavirus pandemic and tied Maryville 0-0.

He proceeded to lead the Hawks to an 8-5-3 record and a spot in the semifinals of the GLVC Tournament in the modified spring season. The Hawks opened the fall by winning three of their first five games before struggles offensively took a toll.

Quincy lost three consecutive 1-0 games and were shut out five times. All nine losses the Hawks suffered were one-goal games.

The Hawks have not been to the NCAA Tournament since 2017 when they went 17-4-1 and won the GLVC championship with a 13-1-1 record.
