Guthrie one solid round away from reaching Korn Ferry Tour Q-School final stage

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. — Luke Guthrie moved closer to regaining his Korn Ferry Tour card for the 2022 season.

The Quincy native climbed six spots up the leaderboard Thursday during the third round of the Korn Ferry Tour Q-School’s second stage, shooting a 5-under 67 for the second consecutive day at Southern Hills Plantation Club. Guthrie is tied for 13th at 9-under overall.

The top 19 and ties following Friday’s final round advance to the Q-School final stage, which takes place Nov. 4-7 at the Marshwood Course at the Landings Club in Savanna, Ga.

All players qualifying for the finals receive their Korn Ferry card for next season. Success in the finals will determine how players are ordered on early-season field lists. 

Guthrie put himself in position to reach the finals by taking advantage of the par-5s Thursday. He birdied all four par-5s as part of a six-birdie, one-bogey round. He shot 3-under 33 on the back nine, making birdie on two of his final three holes.

Alex Weiss, of Pickerington, Ohio, leads the 72-player field at 14-under after shooting 6-under 66 for the second time in three rounds.
