Gems rack up 13 hits, win back-to-back games for first time this season
QUINCY — The Quincy Gems have their first winning streak of the season after posting an 11-6 victory over the Burlington Bees on Tuesday night in a Prospect League game at QU Stadium before an announced crowd of 2,682.
The Gems (5-9) took a 4-0 lead after two innings, but Burlington rallied to tie the score with three runs in the fourth and one in the fifth. Quincy regained the lead for good, however, with four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Riley Black homered to left, Logan Voth drew a bases-loaded walk, Joe Siervo hit a sacrifice fly to score Cross Jumper and Jack Zebig’s single to right drove in Harry Fandre.
Burlington answered with two runs in the top of the sixth, but Quincy responded with three more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Black doubled to center field, and Kyle Hvidsten drove him in with a triple to center field. After Jumper walked, Fandre singled to drive in both Hvidsten and Jumper.
Stefan Stockwell earned the victory for Quincy with two innings of scoreless relief, striking out five batters. Carter Poole then struck out the side in the top of the ninth to close the game.
Black had three hits for the Gems. Siervo, Zebig, Hvidsten and Fandre each had two hits for Quincy, which had 13 hits and received eight walks from Bees pitchers. Siervo also drove in three runs and scored twice.
