Gems leave tying runs on base in ninth inning in road loss to Clinton

CLINTON, Iowa — The Quincy Gems stranded the tying runs on second and third base in the top of the ninth inning in a 4-2 loss to the Clinton LumberKings Monday night in a Prospect League game at NelsonCorp Field.

The Gems (10-15) lost for the third straight game. They are in third place in the Great River Division, one half-game behind Illinois Valley and trailing division-leading Clinton by five games.

Harry Oden and Jimmy Koza drew one-out walks in the ninth. Oden moved to third when Logan Voth flied to right, and Koza then stold second. Riley Black ended the threat by flying out to center field.

Cam Suto drove in both of Quincy’s runs. His RBI single in the fourth inning scored Black, and his RBI single in the sixth inning scored Voth.

Starter Andrew Fay took the loss for Quincy, giving up four runs and eight hits in 4 1/3 innings.
