Gems fall behind early, then rally to tie score before rain forces postponement in third inning
QUINCY — The Quincy Gems fell behind early, but just as soon as they caught the O’Fallon Hoots, Saturday night’s game was stopped because of rain.
Quincy starter Anthony Ribes allowed three runs in the first inning. Sacrifice flies by Lucas Loos and Jack Zebig plated two runs in the bottom of the inning for the Gems.
O’Fallon added a run in the second inning, but the Gems (12-15) came back in the bottom of the second when Harry Oden belted a home run through a driving rainstorm.
After a 15-minute rain delay, Quincy held O’Fallon scoreless in the third. The Gems then loaded the bases in the bottom of the third, and Otto Jones drew a bases-loaded walk with one out to drive in a run, making the score 4-4. The umpires then stopped the game for good after the rain started falling again.
The game was declared postponed. No announcement about a potential makeup date was made after the game.
