QUINCY — The Quincy Gems came from behind twice on Saturday night to tie the score, but they couldn’t pull it off a third time in the 10th inning of a 7-6 loss to the Cape Catfish in a Prospect League game at QU Stadium.

The Gems allowed a run in the top of the 10th inning when Kevin McCarthy’s high chopper up the middle scored Landon Gosney. Quincy placed Joe Siervo at second base in the bottom of the 10th per the Prospect League’s extra inning rules, but with one out, Lucas Loos lined out to left. Siervo ran on contact and was easily doubled up at second base to end the game.

Quincy (5-12) trailed 5-3 entering the bottom of the fifth, but Kyle Hvidsten got the hosts within a run when he scored on a wild pitch. Quincy then tied the score in the bottom of the sixth when Jimmy Koza’s single through the right side scored Siervo.

Brody Chrisman’s RBI double to right put Cape (14-1) ahead 6-5 in the seventh, but Loos lined a two-out single to right-center score Harry Oden and tie the game. The Gems missed a chance later in the seventh to take the lead when Luke Jessen struck out with the bases loaded.

Quincy had another chance to win the game in the ninth, but Siervo took a called strike three with pinch-runner Cam Suto on third.

Dawson Flowers took the loss for the Gems. Hvidsten had three of Quincy’s nine hits, and Koza had two hits and two RBIs.
