ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — A late-inning rally ran out of steam as the Quincy High School baseball team saw its five-game win streak snapped with a 4-2 loss to Rock Island Alleman in Western Big 6 Conference play Wednesday.

The Blue Devils trailed 4-1 heading to the sixth inning when Cameron Lawson singled leading off and Drake Gibson doubled to right field, putting both runners in scoring position. Mason Dent grounded out in the next at-bat, allowing courtesy runner Logan George to score.

However, the rally ended there as the Pioneers’ Truman Marner struck out Nate Konrad and Mason Ritter to end the inning. The Blue Devils went down in order in the seventh.

Quincy (14-15) got off to a solid start as Lawson doubled with one out in the first inning and scored when Gibson doubled to right field in the next at-bat. The Blue Devils had only two base runners the next four innings, one of which was erased on a double play.

Lawson took the loss as he allowed two earned runs over six innings with four walks and no strikeouts. He went 3 for 3, while Gibson finished 2 for 3 as they combined for all five of Quincy’s hits.

The Blue Devils have three games remaining in the regular season, including Friday’s home finale against Quincy Notre Dame.
