Culver-Stockton’s Rivers earns final weekly Heart outdoor track honor
CANTON, Mo. — Culver-Stockton College senior Jabez Rivers recently was named the WinWon Heart of America Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week for the second time this season.
Rivers, a native of Phenix, Ala., and a transfer from Iowa Wesleyan University, received the third weekly honor of his career after his performances at the Grand View Vikings Classic and the Drake Relays last weekend in Des Moines, Iowa.
Despite a field of only five competitors, Rivers claimed the 110-meter hurdles at Grand View in a time of 14.97 seconds Friday, defeating an all-conference hurdler and a national qualifier.
Before running at Grand View, Rivers ran two events at the Drake Relays in the morning, helping the Wildcats to break the school’s sprint medley relay record with a 48.9 second split on the 400-meter leg of the event (200, 200, 400, 800). Rivers also ran for the Wildcats’ 4×100 relay team at Drake.
Rivers, a national outdoor qualifier in the 110 hurdles a year ago, and the rest of the C-SC track and field team will participate in the Heart of America Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships on Friday and Saturday at Central Methodist University in Fayette.
