Culver-Stockton’s Mallett finishes 14th in decathlon, Tucker 16th in race walk at NAIA meet
MARION, Ind. — The Culver-Stockton College men’s track and field entries concluded their stay at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships Thursday afternoon at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Ind.
Junior Drew Mallett, competing in the decathlon for the second straight year, finished 14th. Mallett finished with 6,016 total points, well off his school record mark of 6,391 points he accumulated in winning the Heart of America Athletic Conference championships earlier this month.
Mallet, who opened the day in 10th place with 3,344 points, got off to a quick start in the 110-meter hurdles Thursday morning, garnering 747 points after finishing eighth in a time of 15.87 seconds.
Like Wednesday, Mallett struggled in the field events, totaling just 956 points in the discus and pole vault. He placed 12th in the discus with a throw of 106 feet, three inches, and 14th in the pole vault with a mark of 11 feet even.
Mallett, who finished 10th at the outdoor championships in 2024, re-grouped and picked up 558 points with a fourth-place finish in the javelin with a throw of 157 feet, three inches, which placed him 10th overall in the competition with one event left.
However, Mallett managed just 411 points in the 1,500-meter finale with a 13th-place finish, running a time of 5:27.75.
Teammate Kenny Tucker competed in the 5,000-meter race walk and placed 16th in his final collegiate event. Tucker, who set a school record in last year’s national championships, finished this year’s event in a time of 26:33.18.
