Camp Point Central softball team extends lead late, holds off Brown County

MOUNT STERLING, Ill. — Claire Huston had three hits and three RBIs, including the final of each in a four-run sixth inning by the Camp Point Central softball team as the Panthers withstood a Brown County rally and defeated the Hornets 15-9 on Thursday.
The Panthers led 9-0 entering the bottom of the fourth inning, but the Hornets scored four runs that inning and five more in the fifth to draw within two runs. Emma Stephens struck out Olivia Martinez with runners on first and third to end the fifth.
Braizley Allison singled home two runs with a single in the top of the sixth. Karly Peters’ sacrifice fly followed by Huston’s third hit — an RBI single — extended the Panthers’ lead to 15-9. Brown County went down in order in the sixth and seventh innings.
Peters, Stephens and Adisen Mace each had two hits for the Panthers (13-4). Jamie Loehr went 4 for 5 for Brown County (6-19).
