Blue Devils score first, then Geneseo takes charge in 12-1 rout in Western Big 6 softball game
GENESEO, Ill. — The Quincy High School softball team enjoyed a good start to Tuesday afternoon’s Western Big 6 Conference game, scoring a run in the top of the first.
Geneseo then took over.
The Maple Leafs improved to 5-1 in league play, scoring in four of the game’s five innings while posting a 12-1 victory over the Blue Devils.
Maggie Neally’s two-out RBI single in the first inning scored Ariana Adorno, who had walked. Avary Hlubek also singled in the first inning to advance Neally to second, but K Hlubek struck out to end the threat.
Quincy (5-10, 1-6 in the WB6) then failed to get another hit and had only one other baserunner in the game against Maple Leafs starter Kendyl Wassenhove, who struck out seven and walked two.
The Maple Leafs scored four runs in the first inning, then added two in the third, three in the fourth and three in the fifth. They collected 15 hits, and the Blue Devils committed four errors.
Freshman Jaylee Brudos had three hits, including a home run, scored two runs and drove in four runs for Geneseo. Mady Buysse hit an inside-the-park home run and a two-run walk-off homer, and Lilly Brown had four hits and scored two runs.
