QUINCY — The top goal scorer in the history of the Quincy Notre Dame boys soccer program didn’t take long to net his first collegiate goal.

A substitute midway through the first half of Sunday’s match against Creighton, Saint Louis University freshman forward Seth Anderson scored with a left-footed shot in the 33rd minute of a 4-0 victory at the Billikens’ Robert R. Hermann Stadium.

The ball was played long from the midfield, allowing Anderson to make a run that got him behind the Bluejays’ back line. He carried it toward the left post and buried a short angle shot into the far side of the netting.

His first collegiate goal came in his second career game as the Billikens improved to 2-0. SLU opened with a 2-1 double-overtime victory over Louisville. Anderson came off the bench in that game as well.

Anderson graduated from QND in May after a record-setting season.

He was named an all-stater by the Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association for the second consecutive year. He totaled 35 goals and 14 assists in 15 games this spring, leading the Raiders to a 13-2 record.

He scored a goal in 14 of the 15 games and had a 14-game goal-scoring streak dating back to his junior year, breaking the school record of nine. He finished his career with 79 goals, breaking Gary Koetters’ career record.

Anderson played in the High School All-American Game, held in late May at Chaminade High School in St. Louis, and was named the USA Today Illinois Player of the Year in July.

Another QND All-American game participant and all-state product worked his way into SIU-Edwardsville’s starting lineup with his aggressive play.

Mitchell Murphy, a redshirt freshman who transferred from SMU and a 2019 QND graduate, had five shots with three on goal in the Cougars’ season-opening 1-1 tie with Wisconsin. It earned him a start in Sunday’s 4-3 loss at Marquette.
