At the Cotton Bowl, Canton, Mo.

La Plata 1, Canton 0: A pitchers’ duel wasn’t decided until the seventh inning when the Bulldogs scored in the top of the frame to win the Class 1 sectional showdown. The Tigers’ Kenzie Guilfoyle struck out 16, walked none and allowed just four hits — three of which came in the seventh inning. She held La Plata hitless until the fifth inning. The Bulldogs’ Olivia Coy was equally overpowering, striking out 15, walking one and allowing four hits.

The Bulldogs used three consecutive singles leading off the seventh to load the bases. An error on a ground ball on the next at-bat allowed the only run in the score.
