Men’s basketball

At Student Activity Center, Quincy

John Wood Community College 86, Illinois Central College 74: The Trail Blazers won their third consecutive Mid-West Athletic Conference matchup with a blistering effort from the perimeter. The Trail Blazers shot 56 percent from 3-point range, going 14 of 25 and making several in a key second-half surge that allowed them to pull away.

Brandon Kracht went 5 of 10 from 3-point range and led JWCC with 21 points, while Ja’Veon Taylor and Jarvis Jennings each had 18 points and 10 rebounds. Garrett Snow added 13 points and 11 rebounds as the Trail Blazers improved to 14-8 overall and 3-1 in the MWAC.

At Charles Field House, Canton, Mo.

Grand View 89, Culver-Stockton College 66: A four-point game with 12 minutes to play turned into a rout as the Vikings went on an 11-0 run to gain separation and limited the Wildcats to just 10 points thereafter in the Heart of America Athletic Conference game. Grand View went 17 of 31 from 3-point range (54.8 percent) and had four players in double figures. Alonzo Ortiz-Traylor led the Wildcats with 23 points and 13 rebounds, while Jalen Blaize had 15 points. The Wildcats drop to 13-8 overall and 4-8 in the Heart.

Women’s basketball

At Student Activity Center, Quincy

Illinois Central College 67, John Wood Community College 55: The Trail Blazers trailed the No. 3-ranked Cougars by just two points heading into the fourth quarter, but they were outscored 20-10 as ICC avoided the Mid-West Athletic Conference upset. Stephanie Anders led the Trail Blazers with 18 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals, while Madison McFerrin and Brandy Walker each had 10 points. The Trail Blazers were outscored 50-30 in the paint and 21-6 on second-chance points. JWCC is 6-11 overall and 0-2 in the MWAC.

At Charles Field House, Canton, Mo.

Grand View 69, Culver-Stockton College 54: The Wildcats were outscored 26-9 in the third quarter, made just 2 of 14 3-pointers and dropped a Heart of America Athletic Conference game. C-SC’s 24 turnovers led to 31 points for Grand View. Aaliyah Ortiz and Taylor Green led the Wildcats with 12 points apiece, while Laken Hugenberg added 10. C-SC fell to 10-11 overall and 4-8 in the Heart.
