Boys Soccer

At Flinn Stadium, Quincy

Quincy High School 2, Moline 0: The Blue Devils used a stellar defensive effort and two quality goals to win their Western Big 6 Conference home opener and move to 2-0 in league play. Evan Altman and Andrew Brown scored the Blue Devils’ goals, while Carter Venvertloh had assists on both goals. Grayson Cook posted the shutout as the Blue Devils improved to 3-2 overall.

Prep Softball

At the Cotton Bowl, Canton, Mo.

Canton 7, Westran 0: Kenzie Guilfoyle tossed a three-hit shutout as the Tigers ran their season-opening win streak to six games. Guilfoyle struck out eight and walked three and was backed by an offense that staked her to a 5-0 lead through two innings. Guilfoyle also went 2 for 4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored. Macie Fisher and Madison Gorrell had two hits apiece.

At Hannibal, Mo.

Moberly 7, Hannibal 2: The middle of the Spartans’ order combined to go 7 of 15 with two doubles, two triples, six runs scored and three RBIs in picking up the North Central Missouri Conference victory. Chloe Simms wnet 2 for 4 with a double, a triple and a run scored for the Pirates, who fell to 3-6.

At Kahoka, Mo.

Monroe City 8, Clark County 1: The Panthers erased a one-run deficit with a four-run fifth inning and tacked on five more runs in the seventh to grab the Clarence Cannon Conference victory. Lucy Smith went 3 for 3 with a triple, two runs scored and two RBIs for Monroe City, while Mackenzie Moss went 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs. Kailynn Fuemmeler struck out six, walked none and allowed four hits in earning the victory. The Panthers are 3-3.

At Ewing, Mo.

Centralia 11, Highland 6: The Panthers scored two or more runs in each of the final five innings and held off the Cougars’ late surge to win the Clarence Cannon Conference matchup. Emma Harschberger went 3 for 4 with a double for Highland, while Payton Miller was 3 for 3 with two doubles and two runs scored. The Cougars are 1-6.

At Center, Mo.

Mark Twain 2, Montgomery County 1: Audrey Ross delivered a two-out, walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh to give the Tigers the Eastern Missouri Conference victory. Autumn Arndt drove in Mark Twain’s first run in the second inning. Madison Epperson struck out seven, walked one and allowed four hits to earn the victory. The Tigers are 2-3.

Girls Volleyball

At Korf Gym, Hannibal, Mo.

Hannibal d. Payson Seymour: The Pirates used a balanced attack to sweep the Indians, winning 25-13, 25-15, 25-13. Bella Falconer finished with 11 kills, two aces and 12 digs for Hannibal, while Kendel Locke had six kills, Courtney Locke had five and Emilia Bates had four. Ashlyn Hess dished out 15 assists, while Nora Hark had 13 assists and eight digs.

At Liberty, Ill.

Unity d. Liberty: Kyra Carothers had 13 kills as the Mustangs won 25-14, 25-6. Ashlynn Arnsmann finished with 10 service points and one ace, while Taylor Nichols had 16 service points, two aces and 23 assists.

At Concord, Ill.

Brown County d. Triopia: Cyrah Dunlap’s serves late in the second game helped the Hornets complete the sweep, winning 25-9, 25-19. Katey Flynn had eight kills and five digs, while Klare Flynn had seven kills and three digs. Gracie Hedden added five kills. Gabby McGath had 24 assists as the Hornets improved to 8-1 overall and 2-0 in the Western Illinois Valley Conference.

Boys Golf

At Westview Golf Course, Quincy

Macomb d. Quincy High School: The Bombers had five of their six golfers break 40 as they posted a 150 total, beating the Blue Devils with a 161. Taylor Griffin took medalist honors for Macomb with a 36, while Brady Walker, Luke Chevalier and Raulin Zanger each shot 40 for QHS.

Girls Golf

At Arrowhead Heights Golf Course, Camp Point, Ill.

Central Quadrangular: Laci Novosel took medalist honors with a 38 as Quincy High School won the four-team event with a 164. Quincy Notre Dame shot a 192, followed by Central (211) and West Hancock (240). Hana Knuffman shot a 44 for the Raiders and Blair Eftink posted a 45.

At Innsbrook Golf Course, Innsbrook, Mo.

Palmyra wins triangular: Palmyra posted a 197 total to distance itself from Fulton (223) and Wright City (250). Malory Comstock took medalist honors with a 46 and Maddie Jawad was second with a 47. 

Girls Tennis

At Kirksville, Mo.

Palmyra 9, Kirksville 0: The Panthers completed the sweep with the bottom of the order dominating. Jaynee Durst won her No. 4 singles match 8-1 and teamed with Jeorgia O’Brien for an 8-2 victory at No. 3 doubles. O’Brien won her No. 6 singles match 8-2.
