Pittsfield Thanksgiving Tournament
At Voshall Gym, Pittsfield, Ill.
Payson Seymour 65, Western 31: The Indians outscored the Wildcats 23-1 in the second quarter and rolled to the victory in Tyler Duschinsky’s debut as Payson’s head coach. Trey Johnson led the Indians with 19 points, while Riker Triplett had 11 points.
Petersburg PORTA/A-C Central 46, Central 37: Down by 11 points at halftime, the Panthers managed just two points in the third quarter and could never truly cut into the deficit. Issac Genenbacher led Central with 11 points.
At Korf Gym, Hannibal, Mo.
Bowling Green 62, Hannibal 58: Shorthanded with the football team still playing in the state semifinals, the Pirates kept it close. Aaris Stolte led Hannibal with 21 points, while DaeShon Glasgow added 13.
At Paris, Mo.
Mark Twain 34, Paris 30: Jaxen Lake scored 15 points as the Tigers won their season opener.
Girls Basketball
At The Pit, Quincy
Quincy Notre Dame 60, Keokuk (Iowa) 47: Blair Eftink scored 16 points in the first half in her return to the Raiders’ lineup as QND built a 33-19 halftime advantage. Eftink finished with 21 points. Abbey Schreacke led the Raiders with 28 points in their season opener.
Lady Hornet Classic
At Mount Sterling, Ill.
West Prairie 36, Liberty 34: The Eagles scored just five points in the third quarter to surrender the halftime lead and never recovered. Cora Schuette led Liberty with 13 points.
Pittsfield 38, Rushville-Industry 14: Ellie Ten Eyck scored a game-high 25 points, including all nine of the Saukees’ points in the third quarter. Pittsfield held Rushville to seven points in the first half and none in the fourth quarter.
At Kirksville, Mo.
Kirksville 78, Highland 24: Ansley Bringer led the Cougars with 16 points, while Elli Porter scored a game-high 25 points for Kirksville.
Men’s Basketball
At Student Activity Center, Quincy
John Wood Community College 81, North Central College 75: The Trail Blazers built a 28-point lead in the game’s first eight minutes and were forced to hang out after allowing 44 points in the second half. JWCC led 50-31 at halftime. Jarvis Jennings led the Trail Blazers (5-3) with 18 points and four assists, while Gabe Cox had 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
At UHSP Gymnasium, St. Louis
Culver-Stockton College 77, University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy 72: The Wildcats overcame an eight-point halftime deficit by outscoring the Eutectics 20-8 in points off turnovers. Alonzo Ortiz-Traylor led C-SC with 16 points and eight rebounds, while Jalen Blaize added 13 points. The Wildcats are 8-0, which is the best start to a season since the 2001-02 team started 9-0.
Women’s Basketball
At Pepsi Arena, Quincy
Quincy University 82, William Penn 51: The Hawks limited the Statesmen to 2-of-18 shooting from the field in the first quarter and held them to 19 points in the first half, building a 21-point lead that propelled them to the first victory of the Kaci Bailey coaching era. Sarah Nelson led the Hawks with 16 points and seven rebounds, while Beth Matas Martin had 15 points, eight rebounds and six assists and Dami Adeyinka added 13 points. Emma Knipe grabbed 10 rebounds for Quincy (1-4).
Halo Classic
At OLLU Mabee Gymnasium, San Antonio
Culver-Stockton College 78, LSU Alexandria 66: The Wildcats piled up 27 points in the second quarter, outscoring the Generals by 17 points in the frame and never losing the lead thereafter. Aaliyah Ortiz led the Wildcats with 13 points, while Taylor Green had 11 points and Olivia Hopp added 10. The Wildcats shot 56.9 percent from the field and 52.2 percent from 3-point range. C-SC is 5-1 overall.
