Girls Basketball

At Jacksonville, Ill.

Quincy High School 49, Jacksonville 19: The Blue Devils opened their season by holding the Crimsons scoreless in the second quarter and building a 35-3 halftime advantage. Asia Seangmany led the Blue Devils with 16 points, scoring 14 in the first half. Taylor Fohey added 15 points with 10 coming in the first half.

Men’s Basketball

At the Mabee Sports Complex, Hannibal, Mo.

Culver-Stockton College 70, Hannibal-LaGrange 50: The Wildcats ran their winning streak to six games by holding the Trojans to six field goals and 17 points in the first half. C-SC closed the first half by going on a 15-6 run, while outsourcing HLGU 11-0 in points off turnovers in the half. Overall, the Wildcats forced 14 turnovers but outscored the Trojans 21-0 in points off turnovers. C-SC also owned a 17-3 edge in second-chance points.

Alonzo Ortiz-Traylor led the Wildcats with 19 points and eight rebounds. Jalen Blaize added 16 points. Kaden Eirhart led the Trojans with 15 points. C-SC will look to match the 2013-14 team’s seven-game win streak to open the season when it plays host to William Woods at 7 p.m. Thursday at Charles Field House.

At Johnson Hall, Cedar Rapids, Iowa

Kirkwood Community College 84, John Wood Community College 71: The No. 1-ranked team in NJCAA Division II scored 50 points in the first half, built a 20-point halftime lead and then withstood the 17th-ranked Trail Blazers’ second-half run that cut the deficit to four with 10 minutes to play. The Eagles answered the Trail Blazers’ rally with an 11-1 run to gain the necessary separation to put the game away.

Jarvis Jennings scored 26 points to lead JWCC, going 9 of 11 from the free-throw line. Brandon Kracht made 7 of 13 3-pointers and finished with 25 points, but the Trail Blazers (3-3) shot just 36.5 percent from the field. Kirkwood (4-0) had six players in double figures and shot 58.3 percent from the field.

Women’s Basketball

At the Mabee Sports Complex, Hannibal, Mo.

Culver-Stockton College 65, Hannibal-LaGrange 50: The Wildcats held the Trojans to just eight points in the second quarter and let defense carry them to their third victory of the season. C-SC trailed 17-13 after HLGU scored on the opening possession of the season, but a 16-6 run turned the game around. Addison Newbon led the Wildcats (3-1) with 15 points, while Kaysie Newson had 11 points and nine rebounds as C-SC outrebounded HLGU 36-24. Eliana McClaire led the Trojans (0-4) with 10 points.
