Liberty 68, West Hancock 45: The Eagles, ranked fourth in Class 1A, bounced back from the loss to state-ranked Monroe City with a resounding effort. Clayton Obert led the Eagles with 24 points as they improved to 22-5 ahead of Friday night’s matchup with Quincy Notre Dame.

At Camp Point, Ill.

Central 69, Illini West 58: The Panthers outscored the Chargers 21-12 in the third quarter to gain enough separation to withstand Illini West scoring 22 points in the fourth quarter. Central made 11 of 15 free throws in the fourth quarter with Breyhar Wiskirchen going 8 of 9. Wiskirchen went 9 of 10 from the line overall and finished with 20 points. Isaac Genenbacher had 17 points for the Panthers, and Nick Moore added 16. Nolan Deitrich scored 16 of his 21 points in the second half for the Chargers, while Max Richardson led Illini West with 24 points.

At Beardstown, Ill.

Pittsfield 49, Beardstown 34: The Saukees limited the Tigers to 18 points in the first three quarters and finished off the victory with a 21-point fourth quarter. Nate Scranton went 6 of 7 from the line in the fourth quarter and 8 of 9 overall, finishing with 11 points for the Saukees. Ben Stout had six of his 10 points in the fourth quarter for Pittsfield.

At QHS gym, Quincy

Quincy High School 54, Hannibal 31: The Blue Devils built a 40-15 halftime lead in winning the cross-river showdown. Asia Seangmany scored 10 of her 15 points in the second quarter as the Blue Devils outscored the Pirates 21-5 in the frame. Taylor Fohey and Laci Novosel added 12 points apiece for Quincy, while Leah Chevalier had 11. Mayfield led Hannibal with seven points.

Men’s basketball

At Loren Walker Arena, West Burlington, Iowa

Southeastern Community College 66, John Wood Community College 65: The Blackhawks’ Kennedy Milton hit a running jumper at the buzzer to win the game. It’s the second straight game the Trail Blazers have lost on a buzzer-beater. Brandon Kracht gave the Trail Blazers a 65-64 lead when he hit a 3-pointer with five seconds to play. Ja’Veon Taylor led JWCC with 24 points, while Jarvis Jennings added 12 points. Jesiah West led SCC, which is ranked 11th in the NJCAA Division I national poll, with 14 points. The Trail Blazers are 15-10 overall.
