Men’s Soccer
At Legends Stadium, Quincy
Wisconsin-Parkside 3, Quincy University 2: Senior forward Cole Hayes scored the first goal of the season for the Hawks, but the Rangers answered with three goals in an 18-minute span of the first half to snare the non-conference victory. The Hawks cut the deficit to 3-2 in the 61st minute when Jack Rhead converted a penalty kick.
Alsadiq Hasan appeared to tie the game in the 70th minute when he banged a free kick in off the far post, but the goal was disallowed because the play came off an indirect kick without a second person touching the ball. The Hawks outshot the Rangers 20-8. Quincy travels to Northern Michigan on Sunday.
At Galesburg, Ill.
Carl Sandburg 2, John Wood Community College 1: The Chargers, ranked 20th in NJCAA Division II, built a two-goal lead and held off the Trail Blazers’ rally. Adam Naim scored for JWCC, which fell to 1-2-1 ahead of Saturday’s game at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
Boys Soccer
At Veterans Field, Hannibal, Mo.
Hannibal 8, Kirksville 0: Alex Friday and Bodie Rollins each had two goals as the Pirates opened North Central Missouri Conference play with the victory. Drew Porter had a goal and two assists for Hannibal, while Colton Dryden, Thomas Janes and Kevin Westhoff each scored. Kolin Westhoff and DaeShon Glasgow each had an assist. Parker Terrill recorded the shutout.
At Canton, Mo.
Quincy Notre Dame JV 2, Canton 1: Trevor Biggerstaff scored the lone goal for the Tigers, but the Raiders won a penalty-kick shootout.
Girls Volleyball
At the Lady Suns Classic, Augusta, Ill.
Brown County d. Liberty: The Hornets won 25-10, 25-10.
Illini West d. Western: Ava Bliss and Josie Bryan each had five kills as the Chargers picked up a 25-10, 25-13 victory. Marie DeSotel had 10 digs.
West Hancock d. Rushville-Industry: The Titans won 16-25, 25-20, 15-12.
Unity d. Beardstown: The Mustangs improved to 3-0 in the tournament with a 25-10, 25-13 victory. Ashlynn Arnsman had nine service points, two aces and six kills for Unity, while Kyra Carothers finished with 10 kills, five service points and three aces and Taylor Nichols had 25 assists.
Girls Tennis
At Belleville, Ill.
Belleville West 3, Quincy High School 2: The Maroons swept the three doubles matches in straight sets to win the dual. The Blue Devils’ Lily and Phoebe Hayes won their singles matches with Lily winning 6-1, 6-0 against Belleville West’s Morgan Keefe and Phoebe beating Chloe Brown 6-4, 6-1.
At Hannibal, Mo.
Hannibal 5, Palmyra 4: After splitting the singles matches, the Pirates won the Nos. 2 and 3 doubles matches to earn the dual victory. Hannibal’s Irelan Lomax and Brooklyn Haye knocked off Molly Gottman and Abbey Mann 8-2 at No. 2, while Lanie Privett and Brynn Burton beat Jaynee Durst and Jeorgia O’Brien 8-4 at No. 3. Emma Haner, Lomax and Privett won singles matches for the Pirates.
Prep Softball
At Flower City Park, Palmyra, Mo.
Palmyra 10, Mark Twain 0: Jazlin Gottman struck out 11, walked two and tossed a six-inning no-hitter as the Panthers improved to 4-2. Abbey Redd went 2 for 4 with two runs scored, while Alaina Loman went 1 for 3 with two RBIs. Palmyra scored four times in the bottom of the sixth inning to end the game.
At Macon, Mo.
Macon 2, Monroe City 0: In a battle of Clarence Cannon Conference heavyweights, the Tigers’ Brooke Weimer limited the Panthers to one hit and a two-run third inning proved to be enough to grab the victory. Adriona White had the lone hit for Monroe City as Weimer struck out 10 and walked one.
At the Cotton Bowl, Canton, Mo.
Canton 14, Knox County 3: Kenzie Guilfoyle went 4 for 5 with four RBIs and was the winning pitcher as the Tigers dispatched the Eagles.
Girls Golf
At Lake Bracken Country Club, Galesburg, Ill.
Quincy High School d. Galesburg: The Blue Devils’ Laci Novosel and Sophia Gold shared medalist honors by shooting 40 as QHS carded a 165 team total. Galesburg shot a 205.
At Weibring Golf Course, Normal, Ill.
Normal U-High Tournament: The Raiders finished 11th in the 15-team field with a 385. Hana Knuffman shot an 84 and finished 17th, while Blair Eftink shot a 96.
At Mexico, Mo.
Mexico Quadrangular: Palmyra finished second with a 196. Maddie Jawad matched her career-best nine-hole score with a 46 and Mallory Sublette shot a 47.
