Girls Tennis

At Mexico, Mo.

Class 1 District 8 Tournament: Palmyra outlasted Mexico with a 5-4 victory to win the district title and advance to Monday’s sectional against Westminster Christian Academy in Town & Country, Mo.

The Panthers won the top two doubles matches with Katy Rindom and Maura Gottman picking up an 8-6 victory at No. 1 and Molly Gottman and Jaynee Durst scoring an 8-0 victory at No. 2. In singles play, Maura Gottman won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2, Durst won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 and Jeorgia O’Brien won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6.

In the semifinals against Moberly, the Panthers swept the three doubles matches and ended the dual with Molly Gottman’s 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles and Durst’s 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles.

Girls Volleyball

At Camp Point, Ill.

Unity d. Central: Brooklyn Stiefel had nine kills, nine service points and five digs as the Mustangs rolled to a 25-15, 25-12 victory. Kylee Barry had eight digs, seven service points and six kills, while Kyra Carothers had 11 kills and seven digs.

At Mount Sterling, Ill.

Brown County d. Rushville-Industry: Katey Flynn, Gracie Hedden and Klare Flynn each had eight kills as the Hornets picked up a 25-13, 25-17 victory. Kaci McKeon had 13 digs as Brown County improved to 23-3.

At Columbia, Mo.

Rock Bridge d. Hannibal: The Pirates fell 25-9, 25-16, 25-20 in a non-conference matchup. Kate Maune led the Pirates with five kills and 11 digs, while Bella Falconer had five kills and three digs.

Prep Softball

At Ewing, Mo.

Highland 11, Knox County 4: The Cougars took the lead with two runs in the first inning and put the game out of reach with five runs in the fifth inning. Haleigh Winter went 2 for 4 with two home runs and three RBIs, while Payton Miller was 2 for 3 with a double and four RBIs. Ashley Kaylor and Hannah Mead also had two hits apiece for the Cougars. Miller struck out seven and walked one to earn the victory.
