At St. Louis

Quincy University outshot Missouri-St. Louis 13-10 but lost 1-0 in a Great Lakes Valley Conference matchup. The lone goal of the game was scored by UMSL in the 22nd minute on the first shot by either team. QU had two late chances to equalize as Alaina Nasello ripped a shot on goal in the 84th minute and Jessica Felx missed a shot wide right in the 89th minute. The Hawks now have a 3-4 record, 2-3 in the GLVC. QU is tied with Missouri-St. Louis for 10th place in the GLVC.

College Golf

At Spring Lake Country Club, Quincy

Lars Werny shot a 76 and Conner Bross shot a 79 to help the Culver-Stockton College men take the lead after the first day of the Spring Lake Country Club Fall Classic. The Wildcats’ team score of 318 was 17 strokes better than Quincy University and 20 strokes better than William Penn. Ryan Kuse shot an 81, the best score on Sunday for QU. The second round will be played Monday.

The Quincy University women had the four best scores on Sunday. The Hawks shot a 345 to easily outdistance Peru State (396) and Culver-Stockton (441). Karlie Schnepp shot an 84, and Hannah Maguire, Natalie Dearwester and Ashlyn Sanders all shot 87s for QU. Emily Grodjesk shot a 99 for Culver-Stockton’s best score and is in eighth place. Hannibal-LaGrange University’s Sophia Welch shot a 104 as an individual to place 10th.
