College baseball

At Weber Field, St. Louis

Quincy University 8, Maryville 7: Joe Roscetti’s two-out, two-run triple in the top of the eighth inning gave the Hawks the lead, and left-hander Sam Stephens closed the door on the non-conference victory in the first game of a doubleheader. The Hawks built a 6-1 lead on the strength of a five-run second inning featuring a two-run double from Roscetti and a two-run homer from Dayson Croes. The Saints rallied in the sixth with five runs, highlighted by Quincy Notre Dame product Joey Polak’s three-run home run. Nolan Wosman and Luke Napleton each had three hits for the Hawks, while Nolan Roseman grabbed the victory with 2.2 scoreless innings of relief.

Maryville 6, Quincy University 5: In the nightcap of the doubleheader, a rough first inning spelled doom for the Hawks. Despite falling behind 5-0 through three innings, the Hawks rallied, scoring twice in the fifth and sixth innings to get within a run. In the seventh, Lance Logsdon led off with a double, but he was stranded there. Croes went 3 for 3, while Brock Boynton and Gino D’Alessio each had two hits for Quincy.
