At Lexington, Mo.

Mark Twain 36, Lexington 6: Lakoda Preston returned the opening kick of the second half for a touchdown, added another kick return for a score and caught a touchdown pass. The Tigers led 12-0 at halftime and never trailed.

Prep Softball

Monroe City Tournament, Monroe City, Mo.

Canton wins championship: Canton scored single runs in the top of the sixth and seventh innings to upend Monroe City 3-2 in the title game at Lions Park Field.

Nariah Clay hit a solo home run to center field with two outs in the sixth to tie the game at 2. In the seventh, with two outs and a runner at first base, Madison Gorrell walked. Allie Ruffcorn popped a single to right field, allowing Kinsey Biggerstaff to score the go-ahead run.

The Tigers had just three hits, while Kenzie Guilfoyle struck out five, allowed six hits and gave up just two runs over seven innings to earn the victory. 

In the 5-4 victory over Clark County in the semifinals, Clay went 2 for 3 with three RBIs, a home run and a double. The Indians scored four times in the bottom of the seventh on Ross’ two-out grand slam, but a groundout to the first baseman ended the game.

Girls Volleyball

At Bloomington, Ill.

Quincy Notre Dame d. Bloomington Central Catholic: The Raiders rebounded from dropping the second set to finish off a 25-23, 22-25, 25-16 victory. Abbey Schreacke led QND with 12 kills and four blocks, while Emma Hoing had eight kills, Annie Eaton collected six kills, 10 assists and two aces, and Maggie Drew had 16 assists. The Raiders are 3-0.

At Lady Suns Classic, Augusta, Ill.

Southeastern wins title: Southeastern improved to 6-0 and won the title of its own tournament by beating Brown County 25-17, 25-27 and Unity 25-23, 25-22 in the championship pool. The Suns’ Amanda Stephens had seven kills against Brown County and 13 against Unity, earning tourney MVP honors. Ani Kerr had 23 assists in each match, while Abbey McMillen had six kills in each match and seven digs against Unity.

Brown County beat Unity 25-22, 25-22 to take second place.

Katey Flynn had 19 kills and 15 digs in the two matches for Hornets, who are 7-1. Gabby McGath had 36 assists, and Kaci McKeon finished with 17 digs.

Kyra Carothers led the Mustangs with 14 total kills and Taylor Nichols had 41 total assists. Unity is 3-3.

In gold pool action, Illini West defeated Payson Seymour 25-18, 25-13 and Central 25-17, 25-18. Central also defeated Payson 21-25, 25-18, 15-9.

In silver pool play, the Macomb sophomores beat Liberty 25-18, 25-14 and West Hancock 25-16, 25-17. West Hancock beat Liberty in the other match 9-25, 25-17, 15-11.

In bronze pool play, Western beat Rushville-Industry 25-23, 25-16 and Beardstown 25-9, 25-21. Rushville-Industry beat Beardstown 25-23, 25-9.

Boys Cross Country

At Wilson Park, Granite City, Ill.

Granite City Invitational: Quincy High School senior Fiker Rosen finished third individually and senior Ayden Triplett was 25th as the Blue Devils took eighth as a team. St. Louis University High won the title of the 25-team event with five runners in the top 16. Rosen finished in 15 minutes, 25 seconds, while Triplett ran a 16:34.40. 

At Big Creek Park, Canton, Ill.

Canton Invitational: Quincy Notre Dame finished third as a team with 82 points. Pekin won the title with 41 points. Raiders freshman Joe Warning finished eighth in 18:41.9. QND senior Evan Hirstius was 18th in 20:03.5.

Girls Cross Country

At Wilson Park, Granite City, Ill.

Granite City Invitational: O’Fallon placed three runners in the top 10 and snared the team title, while Quincy High School took sixth. QHS senior Anna Schuering finished fifth individually in 18:46.60, while junior Alexandria Meyers was 29th in 20:16.70.

At Big Creek Park, Canton, Ill.

Canton Invitational: Quincy Notre Dame finished second as a team with 57 points. Pekin won the title with 25 points. Raiders senior Teresa Drotar finished sixth in 22:12.1, while sophomore Abigail Genenbacher was 12th in 23:00.4.

Men’s Soccer

At Waterloo, Iowa

Iowa Central 4, John Wood Community College 1: Tristen Terrill scored to help the Trail Blazers play even for the first 70 minutes, but three late goals by Iowa Central led to the loss. JWCC is 1-3-1 ahead of Tuesday’s home game against Culver-Stockton JV.

At The Front Yard

John Wood Community College 2, Lincoln Land 0: The Trail Blazers scored once in each half and Maddie Hill made 11 saves to earn the shutout. McKenna Little scored off a Maddi Meyer assist in the 38th minute, while Alexis Miranda converted a Little assist in the 50th minute.

Women’s Volleyball

At Nova Southeastern Tournament, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Nova Southeastern d. Quincy University: The Hawks suffered a 25-21, 25-15, 25-23 loss as they hit just .083 in the second set. Sydney Clark had 10 kills and America Galvan finished with 15 digs.

Lynn d. Quincy University: The Hawks finished the tournament with a 23-25, 25-17, 25-16, 25-8 loss. Mattie Norris, Emily Rehagen and Elizabeth Lightner had nine kills apiece. Faith Krabbe had 26 assists.

At Charles Field House, Canton, Mo.

Culver-Stockton College d. Crowley’s Ridge: The Wildcats improved to 2-0 at home with a 25-11,25-12, 25-20 victory. Heleine Filipe had 12 kills, while Lexia Capes and Abby Goodwin had seven kills apiece. Gabi De Jesus Colon finished with 18 assists.
